Well here it is, my first “healthy lifestyle” post! As important as it is to maintain a healthy and nutrient-rich diet, I believe it is equally as important to focus on the bigger picture, our body as whole. This is where holistic living and lifestyle come in to play. What is a holistic lifestyle? To put it simply, it is a lifestyle that balances emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

A hair treatment might seem a tad frivolous but I believe that taking care of our bodies – inside and out – will make us feel great physically and also boost morale {insert Bear Grylls joke here}.

Coconut oil boasts an abundance of benefits and many uses; from cooking and baking to body lotion and makeup remover. For more ways to incorporate oil into your daily beauty routine, click here.

The Ingredients {Yield: 1 hair treatment Total Time: 30 minutes}

  • 3-4 tablespoons coconut oil, depending on hair length
  • 1/2 teaspoon essential oil {I used: lavender oil, but there are many options including tea tree, eucalyptus, sage, chamomile…}

The Directions

1. If your coconut oil is solid, heat gently in a pan on low until liquid. Transfer to a bowl and add essential oil

2. Scoop oil in hands and run through hair, making sure to spread from root to tip. Clip hair away from face and leave in just as you would a leave-in conditioner, for 30-60 minutes

3. Wash and style as normal. Voila! Soft, shiny, and hydrated hair

*Note, some may find the coconut oil difficult to rinse. If this is the case, mix a scoop of baking soda into your regular shampoo for a homemade clarifying shampoo to help rid of any excess oil

  • Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you
    wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is great blog.
    An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
